Thailand has announced a new tax incentive to support the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) industry. On 7 October 2026, the Revenue Department announced that the Cabinet had approved in principle a draft Royal Decree allowing companies and juristic partnerships to claim enhanced corporate income tax deductions for certain exhibition-related expenses. The measure aims to promote domestic events, business tourism, and economic activity.
The proposed incentive allows eligible companies to deduct qualifying expenses at twice their actual amount. The benefit specifically covers space rental fees and service fees incurred when participating in trade fairs, exhibitions, or trade shows held in Thailand. For example, an eligible company spending THB 100,000 on qualifying exhibition expenses could potentially claim a total tax deduction of THB 200,000. At a 20% corporate income tax rate, the additional deduction could generate THB 20,000 in tax savings, assuming sufficient taxable profit and compliance with all conditions.
An important distinction is that the incentive primarily targets businesses participating as exhibitors rather than automatically covering all MICE-related expenditure. Costs of organizing conferences, employee seminars, accommodation, transportation, marketing activities, or other event services are not expressly included in the announced scope. Event organizers should therefore distinguish their own operating expenses from qualifying participation expenses incurred by exhibitors.
Under the proposal, the incentive covers qualifying events in Thailand commencing between 6 October 2026 and 31 December 2027, with the relevant expenses also paid during that period. Both the event date and payment date are important. However, as of 10 October 2026, the measure remains subject to the enactment of the Royal Decree and any detailed conditions subsequently prescribed.
From an accounting and tax perspective, CFOs should ensure that eligible expenses are separately identified and supported by appropriate documentation. Important evidence includes exhibition participation agreements, space rental invoices, service fee details, tax invoices, payment records, and confirmation of actual participation. Companies should also review withholding tax and VAT obligations under the ordinary tax rules.
In summary, the proposed MICE incentive offers businesses an opportunity to reduce the tax cost of participating in domestic exhibitions and trade shows. However, it should not be interpreted as a general double deduction for all meetings and seminars. CFOs should verify the nature of each expense, the applicable period, and the final legal requirements before claiming the benefit.
